San Antonio, one of Texas' oldest chartered settlements, is full of history and diversity. Students in our program will begin the weekend by stepping back in time at the Alamo, an 18th-century Franciscan mission that was the location of an important battle site for Texans fighting for independence from Mexico in 1836.

Students will explore the city's modern side with a stroll down the famous River Walk. Later, they will have the unique opportunity to be immersed in Texas’s famous “cowboy culture” as guests of the Mayan Dude Ranch in Bandera, the “Cowboy Capital of the World!” The Mayan is one of the finest dude ranches in Texas Hill Country. Take a step with us onto the Texas Frontier for an experience you’ll never forget!

The course begins in San Antonio, but most of your time will be spent at the Mayan Dude Ranch in Bandera.

Housing & Transportation

Check-in is at the Historic Hotel Gibbs on Alamo Plaza. Transportation between Hotel Gibbs and the Mayan Dude Ranch is provided by Au Pair Weekend and is included in the course price.

Three nights (Thursday - Saturday) of lodging at the Mayan Dude Ranch in Bandera, Texas, are included in the standard weekend course price. We also offer these optional housing add-ons:

  • For an additional $100, you can upgrade to a private en suite King room at the ranch. The standard price includes a queen bed in a shared en suite room with one other student.

  • You can also book a room at the Historic Hotel Gibbs in San Antonio for Wednesday or Sunday nights at a rate of $75 per night in December and $85 per night in February. These rooms will be shared with another au pair, and breakfast is included.
